PNG to JPG converter

Turn PNG screenshots, photos and exports into JPGs (also called JPEGs) that are smaller and accepted by every upload form. Your browser does the conversion, so nothing is uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. 1Drop one or more PNG images into the box above.
  2. 2Leave JPG selected and pick a quality. 90 is the default; 75 to 80 gives much smaller files for the web.
  3. 3Select Convert, check each file's new size and the Compare view, then download the JPGs one at a time or as a ZIP.

What you get

  • One JPG per image, with the same name and a .jpg ending.
  • Transparent areas become white, because JPG can't store transparency. Keep the PNG for logos and cut-outs.
  • Photos saved as PNG usually shrink a lot. Screenshots of text and flat graphics shrink less, and JPG can blur sharp text edges at low quality.
  • Up to 5 images at a time without an account, 10 with a free account and 30 with Pro.

Limits

  • Without an account: files up to 25 MB, 5 files at a time.
  • With a free account: up to 50 MB, 10 files at a time.
  • Very large files depend on your device's memory, because the work happens in your browser.

What happens to your file

Your file never leaves your device. The conversion runs in your browser using code from our site, and we don't receive the file, its name or anything inside it. How we handle files.

PNG to JPG: common questions

Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes. They're the same format with two spellings of the file ending. Early Windows only allowed three-letter endings, so .jpeg became .jpg. Anything that asks for a JPEG accepts a .jpg file.
Why convert PNG to JPG?
To make files smaller, or because a website, form or print shop only accepts JPG. A photo saved as PNG can be five to ten times the size of the same photo as a JPG at quality 90.
Will I lose quality?
A little, because JPG compresses by discarding detail you mostly can't see. At quality 90 a photo looks the same. Sharp text and thin lines show it first; use Compare after converting to check.
What happens to a transparent background?
It turns white. JPG has no transparency at all, so if you need the background to stay clear, keep the PNG or convert to WebP instead.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the PNG and writes the JPG, so the images don't reach our server.
