GIF to MP4 converter

Convert an animated GIF to an MP4 video that social apps accept and that loads much faster on a website. Your browser does the work.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

How to convert GIF to MP4

  1. 1Drop an animated GIF into the box above.
  2. 2MP4 is already selected.
  3. 3Select Convert, check the preview, and download the MP4.

What you get

  • An H.264 MP4 at the GIF's own size and speed, which plays on every phone, computer and social app.
  • The MP4 is usually a fraction of the GIF's size, often a tenth or less.
  • MP4 has no transparency, so clear areas of the GIF become solid.
  • A GIF with an odd width or height loses one pixel from that edge, because H.264 needs even dimensions.
  • The MP4 plays once. Players, websites and social apps decide whether to loop it; Loop video makes a longer copy if you need one.

Limits

  • Free, with or without an account: files up to 500 MB, 3 at a time.
  • With Pro: files up to 2 GB, 30 at a time.
  • Big files are read from your disk as they're processed, so they don't need to fit in memory, but a phone takes longer than a computer.

What happens to your file

Your file never leaves your device. The conversion runs in your browser using code from our site, and we don't receive the file, its name or anything inside it. How we handle files.

GIF to MP4: common questions

Is this GIF to MP4 converter free?
Yes. Files up to 500 MB convert free, without an account and without a watermark. Pro raises the limit to 2 GB a file and converts up to 30 files at a time.
Why is the MP4 so much smaller?
GIF stores every frame as a separate 256-colour picture. MP4 stores only what changes between frames, with far better compression, so the same animation takes much less space.
Can I post a GIF to Instagram or TikTok this way?
Yes. Neither takes GIF uploads, but both accept MP4. Convert here, then upload the MP4 from your phone's gallery or Files.
Will it have sound?
No. GIFs have no sound, so the MP4 is silent. Add audio to video can put music behind it.
Is my GIF uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the GIF stays on your device and never reaches our server. Once the page has loaded it keeps working if your connection drops.
Why does the first conversion take a few seconds to start?
The converter is a copy of FFmpeg that runs in your browser. It's about 31 MB, so it downloads the first time you use it and your browser keeps it for next time.
