Processed on our server and deleted about 60 minutes later. How we handle files
How to convert Word to PDF
- 1Drop your .docx or .doc file into the box above.
- 2Select Convert. We turn it into a PDF on our server.
- 3Download the PDF.
What you get
- Pages come out the way the document would print, with its margins, headers and footers.
- Accepts .docx, .doc, .odt and .rtf. Excel and PowerPoint files work in the same box.
- Conversion uses LibreOffice. Complex layouts can shift slightly, and missing fonts are swapped for similar ones.
- Macros never run. Password-protected documents need the password removed in Word first.
Limits
- Without an account: files up to 25 MB and 150 pages.
- With a free account: up to 50 MB and 400 pages.
- Conversion runs on our server, which allows 2 server jobs a day without an account and 10 a day with a free account. Compression and repair count towards the same allowance.
What happens to your file
Your file is uploaded over HTTPS to private storage and converted in an isolated worker. The upload is deleted as soon as conversion finishes, and the result about 60 minutes after it's ready, or straight away if you select Delete from server now. How we handle files.
Word to PDF: common questions
- Do I need Microsoft Word installed?
- No. The conversion runs on our server with LibreOffice, so it works from any browser, including on a phone.
- Why do my line breaks look different?
- If the document uses a font our server doesn't have, a similar font is used, which can move line and page breaks. Fonts such as Arial, Times New Roman and Calibri have close matches; unusual fonts are more likely to shift.
- How long do you keep my document?
- Your upload is deleted as soon as conversion finishes. The PDF is deleted about an hour after it's ready, or straight away if you select Delete from server now.
