Good to know

  • Accepts .docx, .doc, .xlsx, .xls, .pptx, .ppt, .odt, .ods, .odp and .rtf files.
  • Conversion uses LibreOffice. Most documents look the same as in Microsoft Office, but complex layouts can shift slightly.
  • If a document uses fonts our server doesn't have, similar fonts are used instead, which can move line and page breaks.
  • Spreadsheets print every sheet, using each sheet's print area and page breaks. Set those in Excel first for the cleanest result.
  • Macros never run, and linked files and web content are not fetched.
  • Password-protected documents can't be converted. Remove the password in Office first.
  • Files are uploaded over HTTPS, processed in an isolated worker and deleted automatically. See how we handle files.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF: common questions

Is Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF free?
Yes. Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF is free and works without an account, for files up to 25 MB and 150 pages. A free account raises that to 50 MB and 400 pages.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
Yes. Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF needs server software, so the file is uploaded over HTTPS, stored privately and deleted automatically about 60 minutes after processing, or straight away if you ask.
Which file types can I convert to PDF?
Word (.docx and .doc), Excel (.xlsx and .xls), PowerPoint (.pptx and .ppt), OpenDocument (.odt, .ods and .odp) and RTF. We check the file contents, not just the name.
Will my PDF look exactly like the original?
Usually, but not always. Conversion uses LibreOffice rather than Microsoft Office. If the document uses fonts our server doesn't have, similar fonts are substituted, which can move line and page breaks. Complex layouts can shift slightly.
Do macros in my document run?
No. Macros are switched off, and linked files and web content in the document are not fetched. The PDF shows the content saved in the file.
Does Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
