Video editor

Trim, crop, rotate, flip, resize, speed up and change the sound of a video in one go.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

A free online video editor that doesn't upload your video

Most quick fixes to a video are the same handful of jobs: cut off the start and end, crop out the edges, turn a sideways phone clip upright, make it smaller, speed it up or change the sound. This editor puts all of them on one page and applies them in a single pass, so the picture is only re-encoded once and keeps as much quality as possible.

It runs in your browser. The video is opened and saved on your own computer or phone, so a private family clip or an unreleased work video never leaves your hands, and you don't wait for a big upload before you can start.

Video editor in short

Choose a video: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and most phone formats, then set the start and end, then pick any of crop, rotate, flip, size, speed and volume, then select Save video and download an MP4 that plays everywhere. It's free, there's no sign-up, and it runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

How to use Video editor

  1. 1

    Open your video

Choose a file or drag it onto the page. MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and the formats phones record in all work. The preview appears straight away, with its length and resolution.

  2. 2

    Cut it to length

Drag the two handles under the preview, type exact times, or play to the right moment and select Use playhead. Only the part between the handles is kept.

  3. 3

    Make your changes

Turn on any of crop, rotate, flip, resize, speed and volume. Crop has square, 9:16, 16:9, 4:5 and 4:3 shapes or a free box you draw. Speed goes from 0.25× to 4×, and volume from silent to four times as loud.

  4. 4

    Save and download

Pick MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV and select Save video. A progress bar shows how far along it is, and you can watch the result before downloading it.

Good to know

  • Every change is applied in one pass, so quality is only reduced once.
  • For titles or a logo on top, use Add text to video or Add image to video after editing.
  • The first time you use an audio or video tool, your browser downloads our 31 MB processing engine. It's kept for next time, so later runs start straight away.
  • Processing happens on your device, so speed depends on your computer. A minute of 1080p video takes roughly one to three minutes on a recent laptop; phones are slower.
  • This tool runs in your browser. Very large files depend on your device's memory.

What people use it for

  • Social media posts

Trim a clip to the best ten seconds and crop it to 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, or square for a feed post.

  • Fixing phone videos

Turn a sideways video upright, mirror a selfie clip where the text reads backwards and turn down a noisy background.

  • Work and school

Cut a screen recording down to the useful part and shrink it to 720p so it fits in an email or a learning platform.

  • Sharing with family

Speed up a long clip, drop the sound, and save a smaller MP4 that plays on any phone.

Why use ConvertFile

  • Everything in one pass

Trim, crop, rotate, flip, resize, speed and volume are combined into one export, so the video loses quality once rather than once per tool.

  • Never uploaded

Your video is processed by your own browser and handed back as a download. It isn't sent to our servers, so there's nothing for anyone to see, keep or leak.

  • No watermark, no sign-up

The video you download is yours as it is: no logo stamped on it and no account needed. It's free for files up to 500 MB.

  • Files up to 500 MB free

Videos up to 500 MB work without an account, and Pro raises that to 2 GB. Big files are read from your disk as they're processed, not loaded into memory first.

  • Exact controls

Type times to the tenth of a second, draw the crop box on the frame and see the new length before you save. No guessing with a timeline.

  • Works on any computer or phone

Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone and Android, in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Nothing to install, and the tool keeps working if your connection drops once it has loaded.

Video editor: common questions

Is there a free online video editor with no watermark?
Yes, this one. It adds nothing to your video and needs no account for files up to 500 MB. Because it runs in your browser, there's also no queue and no upload.
Can I edit a video online without uploading it?
Yes. The editor runs entirely in your browser using a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg, the same engine many desktop editors use. Your video is read from your device and the result is saved back to it.
Does editing reduce the video's quality?
Any change to the picture means re-encoding it, which loses a little quality. The editor applies every change in one pass to keep that to a single step. Trimming on its own can copy the video without re-encoding in Trim video.
Can I add music, text or a logo here?
Not in this editor. Use Add audio to video, Add text to video or Add image to video on the finished file. Each runs in the browser the same way.
Is Video editor free?
Yes. Video editor is free, works without an account and adds no watermark, for files up to 500 MB. Pro raises that to 2 GB.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Video editor runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
Does Video editor work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
