Trim video
Cut the start and end off a video, or keep just the part you want.
Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.
Trim a video online, fast and without losing quality
Trim Video cuts a clip down to the part you want. In the default fast mode it copies the video without re-encoding, so a long file is trimmed in seconds and keeps exactly the quality it had. Switch on Frame-accurate when the cut has to land on an exact frame.
It works with videos up to 500 MB without an account, and because the video never leaves your device, it's a safe way to cut private recordings.
Trim video in short
Choose a video, then play it and set the start and end, by dragging or typing times, then select Trim and download the clip. It's free, there's no sign-up, and it runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
How to use Trim video
- 1
Choose a video
Pick a file or drag it onto the page. The preview shows the length and resolution.
- 2
Set the start and end
Drag the handles, type times such as 1:05.5, or play to a moment and select Use playhead. The length of the clip updates as you go.
- 3
Fast or frame-accurate
Fast copies the video and starts the cut at the nearest keyframe, which can be a second or two early. Frame-accurate cuts exactly where you set by re-encoding the clip, which takes longer.
- 4
Trim and download
Choose MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM and select Trim. Watch the clip, then download it.
Good to know
- Fast mode copies the video without re-encoding, so it's quick and keeps full quality, but cuts at the nearest keyframe, which can be up to a couple of seconds off.
- Turn on Frame-accurate to cut exactly where you set. It re-encodes the clip, which takes longer.
- The first time you use an audio or video tool, your browser downloads our 31 MB processing engine. It's kept for next time, so later runs start straight away.
- This tool runs in your browser. Very large files depend on your device's memory.

Why use ConvertFile
Lossless fast mode
No re-encoding means no quality loss, and a 400 MB video trims in about 30 seconds on a laptop.
Frame-accurate when it matters
Turn it on for precise cuts, for example to start exactly on a word.
Never uploaded
Your video is processed by your own browser and handed back as a download. It isn't sent to our servers, so there's nothing for anyone to see, keep or leak.
Files up to 500 MB free
Videos up to 500 MB work without an account, and Pro raises that to 2 GB. Big files are read from your disk as they're processed, not loaded into memory first.

Trim video: common questions
- How do I cut a video without losing quality?
- Leave Frame-accurate off. The video is copied rather than re-encoded, so the trimmed clip is identical in quality to the original. The only trade-off is that the start lands on the nearest keyframe.
- Why does my trimmed clip start a little early?
- Fast mode can only start a copied clip on a keyframe, which is often every one to two seconds. Turn on Frame-accurate to cut on the exact frame.
- Can I trim a video on my phone?
- Yes. It works in Safari and Chrome on phones. Large files are faster on a computer.
- Is there a limit on video length?
- No limit on length. Files can be up to 500 MB without an account.
- Is Trim video free?
- Yes. Trim video is free, works without an account and adds no watermark, for files up to 500 MB. Pro raises that to 2 GB.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. Trim video runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
- Does Trim video work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
- Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
