Trim audio

Cut an MP3 or any audio file to the part you want, with optional fade in and out.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

An online MP3 cutter for songs, recordings and ringtones

Trim Audio cuts a song, voice memo, podcast or any other audio file down to the part you want. Set the start and end by dragging or typing exact times, add a fade in or out so it doesn't start or stop abruptly, and save it as MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC or Opus.

It's also the easiest way to make a ringtone: cut the chorus, fade the end, and save as M4A for an iPhone or MP3 for Android. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Trim audio in short

Choose an audio file: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC and others, or a video to take the sound from, then play it and set the start and end, by dragging or typing times, then add a fade if you like, pick the format and download. It's free, there's no sign-up, and it runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

How to use Trim audio

  1. 1

    Choose an audio file

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC and most other formats. You can also pick a video and cut its sound.

Drag the handles, type times like 0:42.5, or play to a point and select Use playhead. The length updates as you go.

  3. 3

Fade in and fade out from half a second up to ten seconds each.

  4. 4

    Save

Pick the format and select Trim. Listen to the result, then download.

Good to know

  • To make an iPhone ringtone, save as M4A and keep it under 30 seconds.
  • The first time you use an audio or video tool, your browser downloads our 31 MB processing engine. It's kept for next time, so later runs start straight away.
  • This tool runs in your browser. Very large files depend on your device's memory.

What people cut

  • Ringtones and alarms

Keep the best 20–30 seconds of a song. iPhone ringtones must be M4A and under 30 seconds.

  • Voice memos and interviews

Remove the silence and setup at the start and end of a recording.

  • Podcasts and clips

Pull a quote out of an episode to share.

  • Music for videos

Cut a track to the length of your video before adding it.

Trim audio: common questions

How do I cut an MP3 online for free?
Choose the MP3, set the start and end, add a fade if you like, and select Trim. Save as MP3 again or another format. There's no sign-up.
How do I make a ringtone for my iPhone?
Cut the part you want to under 30 seconds and save as M4A. Then add it to your phone through Finder or iTunes, or GarageBand on the iPhone.
Does trimming reduce audio quality?
The kept part is re-encoded once at high quality. Saving as WAV or FLAC loses nothing further.
Can I cut the sound from a video?
Yes. Choose the video file here and save the cut sound as audio, or use Extract audio for the whole track.
Is Trim audio free?
Yes. Trim audio is free, works without an account and adds no watermark, for files up to 500 MB. Pro raises that to 2 GB.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Trim audio runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
Does Trim audio work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
