Screen recorder

Record your screen, a window or a browser tab, with your microphone if you like.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

Record your screen online, with nothing to install

Screen Recorder captures your whole screen, one window or a single browser tab, with your voice from the microphone and, where the browser allows it, the computer's own sound. It uses the recording feature built into Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, so there's no extension or app to install and no time limit.

The recording is made and kept on your computer. When you stop, you can watch it back and save it as WebM straight away, convert it to MP4 so it plays everywhere, or keep just the sound as an MP3.

Screen recorder in short

Choose whether to record your microphone and the computer's sound, then select Start recording and pick the screen, window or tab to share, then stop when you're done, watch it back and download it as WebM or MP4. It's free, there's no sign-up, and it runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

How to use Screen recorder

  1. 1

    Choose your sound

Turn your microphone on or off, and choose whether to include the computer's sound. Allow microphone access when the browser asks.

  2. 2

    Pick what to share

Select Start recording. The browser shows its own window where you pick the entire screen, an app window or a tab. Choose a tab to include that tab's audio in Chrome and Edge.

  3. 3

    Record, pause and stop

A timer shows the length. Pause if you need a break, and select Stop, or the browser's Stop sharing button, when you're done.

  4. 4

    Save it

Watch it back, then save as WebM (instant), MP4 (converted in your browser, plays on iPhone and in PowerPoint) or MP3 for the sound only.

Good to know

  • Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded. The recording is made by your browser and stays on your device.
  • Computer sound can be recorded from a browser tab in Chrome and Edge, and from the whole screen on Windows. Safari and Firefox record the picture and your microphone only.
  • Screen recording needs a desktop browser. Phones and tablets don't allow it.
  • Saving as MP4 converts the recording in your browser, which takes a little while for long recordings. WebM is instant.
  • This tool runs in your browser. Very large files depend on your device's memory.

Good for

  • Tutorials and how-tos

Show someone how to do something in an app with your voice explaining each step.

  • Bug reports

Record exactly what went wrong on a website and send the clip to support or your developer.

  • Presentations

Record a slide deck with narration to send to people who missed the meeting.

  • Saving a call or demo

Capture a product demo or a webinar tab, with permission from the people in it.

Why use ConvertFile

  • No time limit

Record for as long as your computer has space. There's no cap on length and no countdown.

  • Never uploaded

Your recording is processed by your own browser and handed back as a download. It isn't sent to our servers, so there's nothing for anyone to see, keep or leak.

  • Your voice and the computer's sound

Mix your microphone with tab or system audio. Both are recorded into one track so they stay in step with the picture.

  • MP4, WebM or MP3

Keep the browser's WebM file as it is, or convert to MP4 for iPhones, PowerPoint and video sites. Need the sound only? Save it as MP3.

Supported formats

Saves as

Screen recorder: common questions

How do I record my screen with audio for free?
Turn on the microphone, and the computer's sound if you need it, select Start recording and pick what to share. In Chrome and Edge, share a tab or the whole screen on Windows to include the computer's sound. Safari and Firefox record the picture and your microphone.
Is there a time limit or watermark?
No to both. The recording has no length limit and nothing is added to it.
Can I record my screen on an iPhone or Android phone?
Not in a browser: phones don't let websites capture the screen. Use the screen recording built into your phone, then trim or convert the video here.
Where is my recording stored?
Only in this browser tab until you download it. It's never uploaded. Closing the tab without saving discards it.
Is Screen recorder free?
Yes. Screen recorder is free, works without an account, adds no watermark and has no time limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Screen recorder runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
Does Screen recorder work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
