Video recorder

Record video from your webcam or phone camera, then download it.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

Record video from your webcam, right in the browser

Video Recorder turns your laptop's webcam or your phone's camera into a simple recorder. Allow the camera, press record, and download the clip when you're done. It's handy for a quick video message, an assignment, an audition tape or a test of how you look and sound before a call.

The video is recorded by your browser and stays on your device. Nothing is streamed to us while you record, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Video recorder in short

Allow your browser to use the camera and microphone, then select Start recording, and Stop when you're done, then watch it back and download it as WebM or MP4. It's free, there's no sign-up, and it runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

How to use Video recorder

  1. 1

    Allow the camera

Select the button to start the camera and allow access when the browser asks. On a phone you can switch between the front and back camera.

  2. 2

    Check the picture

A live preview shows what will be recorded. Move into the light and check your microphone is picking you up.

  3. 3

    Record

Select Start recording. Pause and carry on if you need to, then select Stop.

  4. 4

    Watch it and save

Play it back, then save as WebM (instant), MP4 (plays everywhere) or just the sound as MP3.

Video recorder: common questions

How do I record a video with my webcam online?
Open this page, allow the camera and microphone, select Start recording and then Stop. Download the video as WebM or MP4. Nothing is installed or uploaded.
Why can't the page see my camera?
Check the browser hasn't blocked the camera for this site (the camera icon in the address bar), and that no other app, such as Zoom or Teams, is using it. On a Mac, the browser also needs permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
Can I record on my phone?
Yes. It works in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android, with the front or back camera.
Is the recording private?
Yes. It's made by your browser and only exists on your device until you download it.
Is Video recorder free?
Yes. Video recorder is free, works without an account, adds no watermark and has no time limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Video recorder runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
Does Video recorder work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
