About ConvertFile
ConvertFile is built and run by one person, an independent sole trader based in Victoria, Australia. The site went live in October 2026 and has 64 tools for PDFs, video, audio, images and other file types. They cover everyday jobs such as merging a CV with its certificates, shrinking a scan to fit an upload limit, turning iPhone HEIC photos into JPGs and signing a lease, with as little of your file leaving your device as possible.
Most files never leave your device
60 of the 64 tools run entirely in your web browser. The page loads the code, your browser reads the file and writes the result, and the file is never sent to us.
The other 3 (Compress PDF, Repair PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF) need software that can't run in a browser, so the file is uploaded over HTTPS to private storage and processed in an isolated worker. The upload is deleted when processing finishes, and the result about 60 minutes after it's ready, or straight away if you delete it. Every tool page says which kind it is before you add a file. The details are on how we handle files and security.
How the tool pages are written
Each tool page explains what the tool does to your file, including what it doesn't do. Merging drops bookmarks. Cropping hides content without deleting it. A drawn signature isn't a digital signature. The worked examples on tool pages, such as the before and after sizes on Compress PDF or what survives a merge, come from running the site's own code on sample documents we generate ourselves, and each one says when it was measured. If a page says something the tool doesn't do, please tell us and we'll fix the page or the tool.
Beyond the tools there are 29 format pages (such as HEIC to JPG) that open the right tool with the right settings, and 16 guides on questions people ask, for example why a compressed PDF isn't smaller.
How the site is paid for
The tools are free, with no watermark and no sign-up. Hosting is paid for by ads from Google AdSense, shown on some pages away from the tools. Ads never appear inside a tool, and they never see your files. The privacy policy explains the cookies Google uses and how to turn off personalised ads.
A paid Pro plan raises the limits and removes ads. See pricing.
What we don't do
- We don't read, sell or train AI models on your documents, and copies on our server are deleted automatically.
- We don't crack passwords. Unlock PDF needs the password you already have.
- We don't add watermarks to your results or hold downloads behind a sign-up.
