PDF to JPG or PNG

Save each page as an image.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

PDF to JPG or PNG in short

Add a PDF, choose JPG or PNG and a resolution, then download. Every page becomes one image, named after the file and page number, and several images download together as a ZIP. The conversion runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. Text in the images can't be selected or searched.

How to use PDF to JPG or PNG

  1. 1Add a PDF.
  2. 2Choose JPG or PNG, a resolution and which pages.
  3. 3Download a single image or a ZIP.

Good to know

  • Pages are rasterised, so text in the images is no longer selectable or searchable.
  • Page numbers mean physical positions in the file: page 1 is the first page, whatever number is printed on it.
  • This tool runs in your browser. Very large files depend on your device's memory.

How big each image will be

The resolution you pick sets the pixel size of every page. For the two most common paper sizes:

How big each image will be
ResolutionA4 pageUS Letter page
72 DPI (screen)595 × 841 px612 × 792 px
150 DPI (standard)1240 × 1753 px1275 × 1650 px
220 DPI (sharp)1818 × 2572 px1870 × 2420 px
300 DPI (print)2480 × 3507 px2550 × 3300 px

A file called report.pdf gives report-page-1.jpg, report-page-2.jpg and so on, in pages.zip. JPGs are saved at 88% quality. Pages that would be larger than about 40 megapixels are scaled down to that size, and the tool tells you when it does.

Limits

  • Without an account: files up to 25 MB and 150 pages. With a free account: 50 MB and 400 pages.
  • Converting many pages at 300 DPI takes longer and makes a large ZIP. 150 DPI suits screens and email.
  • Only JPG and PNG output. PNG is lossless and best for text and diagrams; JPG makes smaller files for photos.

What happens to your file

PDF to JPG runs in this browser tab. Your PDF is read and rewritten on your own device and handed back as a download; it is never sent to ConvertFile. We record only that the tool was used (its name and whether it finished), never file names, sizes or contents. Closing the tab discards everything.

If something goes wrong

The images are blurry when I zoom in
Choose a higher resolution. 150 DPI is sharp on screen at normal size; use 300 DPI for printing or zooming.
I want the photos inside the PDF, not pictures of whole pages
This tool renders whole pages. It doesn't extract the original embedded images. Our guide explains the difference and when it matters.
A page came out smaller than the resolution I chose
Very large pages (posters, plans) are capped at about 40 megapixels so your browser doesn't run out of memory.

Guides

PDF to JPG or PNG: common questions

Is PDF to JPG or PNG free?
Yes. PDF to JPG or PNG is free and works without an account, for files up to 25 MB and 150 pages. A free account raises that to 50 MB and 400 pages.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. PDF to JPG or PNG runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
Is the text still selectable after converting a PDF to JPG?
No. Each page is turned into a picture, so the text can no longer be selected or searched. Choose PNG for sharp text and diagrams, JPG for smaller files.
Does PDF to JPG or PNG work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
