Extract pages
Copy selected pages into a new PDF.
Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.
Extract pages in short
Add a PDF, click the pages you want to keep and download them as one new PDF, or tick Save each selected page as a separate PDF to get one file per page. The original is left alone. Pages come out in their original order, links between the pages you kept still work, and links to pages you left behind are removed rather than left broken. Bookmarks, the document title and fillable form fields don't come across.
How to use Extract pages
- 1Add a PDF.
- 2Select the pages to keep.
- 3Download them as one new file, or one file per page.
Good to know
- Page numbers mean physical positions in the file: page 1 is the first page, whatever number is printed on it.
- This tool runs in your browser. Very large files depend on your device's memory.
Pulling the first and last page out of a lease
We extracted pages 1 and 4 of a sample 4-page lease. Page 1 has a link that jumps to page 4, and page 4 holds the form fields and a signature field.
| Original | Extracted file | |
|---|---|---|
| Pages | 4 | 2 (pages 1 and 4) |
| File size | 10.3 KB | 7.3 KB |
| Link from page 1 to page 4 | Works | Still works, now points at page 2 |
| Bookmarks | 4 | None |
| Document title | Residential lease (sample) | None |
| Fillable form fields | 3 | None (typed values still show) |
When we extracted pages 1 and 2 instead, the link to page 4 had nowhere to go and was removed. Splitting a 26.0 KB, 12-page document into single pages gave twelve files of about 2.7 KB each. Measured on 1 November 2026 by running this page's code on sample documents we generated ourselves.
Limits
- Without an account: files up to 25 MB and 150 pages. With a free account: 50 MB and 400 pages.
- The extracted pages always come out in their original order. To change the order, run the result through Reorder pages.
- Only the pages you select are written, so text and images from the other pages aren't hidden in the new file.
What happens to your file
Extract pages runs in this browser tab. Your PDF is read and rewritten on your own device and handed back as a download; it is never sent to ConvertFile. We record only that the tool was used (its name and whether it finished), never file names, sizes or contents. Closing the tab discards everything.
If something goes wrong
- My form can't be filled in any more
- Extracting copies each page into a new document, and the form itself belongs to the old one. Fill in the form first, or use Remove pages instead: it deletes the pages you don't want and keeps the form working.
- Should I use Extract pages or Split PDF?
- Extract when you want a handful of pages out of a long file. Split when you want the whole document cut into several files by range, such as chapters.
- I got a ZIP file
- That's what Save each selected page as a separate PDF does with more than one page. Open the ZIP to find one PDF per page, named with its page number.
Guides
- What happens to signatures when you merge PDFs
Image signatures survive a merge; certificate-based digital signatures don't. Why merging breaks them, and how to combine signed documents safely.
- PDF pages to images, or extracting the images inside?
Turning PDF pages into JPG or PNG is not the same as pulling out the photos inside. What each gives you, with pixel sizes, and which one you need.
Extract pages: common questions
- Is Extract pages free?
- Yes. Extract pages is free and works without an account, for files up to 25 MB and 150 pages. A free account raises that to 50 MB and 400 pages.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. Extract pages runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
- What's the difference between extracting and splitting pages?
- Extract keeps only the pages you select and saves them as one new PDF, or one file per page. Split cuts the whole document into several files by range.
- Does Extract pages work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
- Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
