How to convert Video to GIF
- 1Drop a video into the box above. Clips under 15 seconds make the best GIFs.
- 2GIF is already selected.
- 3Select Convert, check the preview, and download the GIF.
What you get
- An animated GIF at 12 frames a second and up to 480 pixels wide, which keeps the file a sensible size.
- Colours are picked from your clip, so skin tones and gradients look smoother than a fixed palette.
- GIFs have no sound.
- The whole video is converted. To make a GIF of one moment, cut it out first with Trim video.
Limits
- Free, with or without an account: files up to 500 MB, 3 at a time.
- With Pro: files up to 2 GB, 30 at a time.
- Big files are read from your disk as they're processed, so they don't need to fit in memory, but a phone takes longer than a computer.
What happens to your file
Your file never leaves your device. The conversion runs in your browser using code from our site, and we don't receive the file, its name or anything inside it. How we handle files.
Video to GIF: common questions
- Is this video to GIF converter free?
- Yes. Files up to 500 MB convert free, without an account and without a watermark. Pro raises the limit to 2 GB a file and converts up to 30 files at a time.
- How long can my GIF be?
- There's no hard limit, but GIF is an old format and grows fast: 10 seconds is usually 2 to 6 MB. Many chat apps cap GIFs at around 8 to 15 MB, so keep clips short.
- Can I make a GIF from part of a video?
- Yes. Cut the part you want with Trim video, then convert that clip here.
- Does it work with iPhone videos?
- Yes. MOV files from an iPhone, including HEVC ones, convert to GIF like any other video.
- Is my video uploaded?
- No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the video stays on your device and never reaches our server. Once the page has loaded it keeps working if your connection drops.
- Why does the first conversion take a few seconds to start?
- The converter is a copy of FFmpeg that runs in your browser. It's about 31 MB, so it downloads the first time you use it and your browser keeps it for next time.
