AVIF to JPG converter

Turn AVIF images, a newer format many websites now serve, into JPGs that open in every photo app, email and upload form. Nothing leaves your device.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

How to convert AVIF to JPG

  1. 1Drop one or more AVIF images into the box above.
  2. 2Leave JPG selected and pick a quality. 90 is the default.
  3. 3Select Convert, then download the JPGs one at a time or as a ZIP.

What you get

  • One JPG per image, with the same name and a .jpg ending.
  • Transparent areas become white, because JPG can't store transparency. Pick PNG instead to keep them.
  • Animated AVIF keeps its first frame only.
  • The JPG is usually larger than the AVIF, because AVIF compresses better.
  • Up to 5 images at a time without an account, 10 with a free account and 30 with Pro.

Limits

  • Without an account: files up to 25 MB, 5 files at a time.
  • With a free account: up to 50 MB, 10 files at a time.
  • Very large files depend on your device's memory, because the work happens in your browser.

What happens to your file

Your file never leaves your device. The conversion runs in your browser using code from our site, and we don't receive the file, its name or anything inside it. How we handle files.

AVIF to JPG: common questions

What is an AVIF file?
An image format based on the AV1 video codec. It makes smaller files than JPG or WebP at the same quality, so sites and image services use it to load pages faster. Older apps and Windows Photos may not open it.
Which browsers can convert AVIF?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (16.4 or later) all read AVIF, so the converter works in any of them, on a computer or a phone.
Will the quality drop?
Slightly, because both formats are lossy and the image is re-encoded. At quality 90 you'd need to zoom in to notice. Use Compare after converting to check.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your browser decodes the AVIF and writes the JPG, so nothing reaches our server.
