MOV to GIF: common questions
- Is this MOV to GIF converter free?
- Yes. Files up to 500 MB convert free, without an account and without a watermark. Pro raises the limit to 2 GB a file and converts up to 30 files at a time.
- How do I turn a Mac screen recording into a GIF?
- Screenshot (Shift-Command-5) saves recordings as MOV files on your desktop. Drop the file here and convert. Trim it first with Trim video if you only need a few seconds.
- How long can the clip be?
- There's no hard limit, but 10 seconds of GIF is usually 2 to 6 MB, and many chat apps cap GIFs at around 8 to 15 MB.
- Is my video uploaded?
- No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the video stays on your device and never reaches our server. Once the page has loaded it keeps working if your connection drops.
- Why does the first conversion take a few seconds to start?
- The converter is a copy of FFmpeg that runs in your browser. It's about 31 MB, so it downloads the first time you use it and your browser keeps it for next time.
