Edit PDF metadata

See and change a PDF's title, author and dates, or strip all metadata before sharing.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

Edit PDF metadata in short

Add a PDF to see its title, author, keywords, dates and other hidden properties, then edit or clear the fields, or choose to remove all metadata, then download the updated copy. It's free, there's no sign-up, and it runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

How to use Edit PDF metadata

  1. 1Add a PDF to see its title, author, keywords, dates and other hidden properties.
  2. 2Edit or clear the fields, or choose to remove all metadata.
  3. 3Download the updated copy.

Good to know

  • Removing metadata clears the document properties, the created and modified dates, XMP metadata on the document, pages and images, and private data left by editing apps.
  • The pages don't change. Text, images, links and form fields stay as they are.
  • When you edit properties, any XMP copy of them is removed, because Adobe Acrobat reads XMP first and would keep showing the old values.
  • Camera data inside embedded photos isn't touched, because images aren't rewritten.
  • Any digital signature in the file is no longer valid afterwards, because the file is rewritten.
  • This tool runs in your browser. Very large files depend on your device's memory.

Edit PDF metadata: common questions

Is Edit PDF metadata free?
Yes. Edit PDF metadata is free and works without an account, for files up to 25 MB and 150 pages. A free account raises that to 50 MB and 400 pages.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Edit PDF metadata runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
What metadata does a PDF contain?
Usually a title, author, subject, keywords, the app it was written in (Creator), the software that made the PDF (Producer), and creation and modification dates. Many files also carry an XMP copy of the same details, and design apps can add private editing data. The author field often holds the name of whoever owns the computer the file was made on.
Does removing metadata change the pages?
No. Text, images, links and form fields stay exactly as they are. Only the information about the document is removed.
Does this remove the location from photos inside the PDF?
No. Images embedded in a PDF can carry their own camera data, and this tool doesn't rewrite images. To be sure, convert the pages to images with PDF to JPG and back with JPG to PDF, which keeps only pixels.
Does Edit PDF metadata work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
