Stabilise video

Smooth out shaky handheld video.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

Stabilise a shaky video

Stabilise Video reduces the small, fast shakes you get when filming by hand or while walking. It looks at how each frame moves compared with the last and steadies the picture, filling in the edges as it goes.

It works best on mild shake. It can't fix big swings of the camera, or the motion blur already in the frames. It's the slowest of the video tools, so trim to the part you need first.

Stabilise video in short

Choose a video, then select Stabilise, then compare the result and download. It's free, there's no sign-up, and it runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

How to use Stabilise video

  1. 1

    Choose a video

Trim long clips first: stabilising takes longer than other edits.

  2. 2

    Stabilise

Select Stabilise. A progress bar shows how far it has got.

  3. 3

    Compare and download

Watch the result. If the edges look smudged, try Crop video to trim them off.

Good to know

  • Stabilising reduces small jitters from handheld filming. It can't fix large swings or motion blur already in the frames.
  • The edges are filled in as the picture is steadied, so a little of the border may look smudged.
  • This is the slowest video tool. Trim the video to the part you need first.
  • The first time you use an audio or video tool, your browser downloads our 31 MB processing engine. It's kept for next time, so later runs start straight away.
  • This tool runs in your browser. Very large files depend on your device's memory.

Best for

  • Handheld phone footage

Steady small jitters in clips filmed without a gimbal.

  • Walking shots

Smooth footsteps out of a walking video.

  • Zoomed-in shots

Zooming in magnifies every wobble. Stabilising helps.

  • Action cameras

Reduce vibration from a bike or car mount.

Why use ConvertFile

  • Never uploaded

Your video is processed by your own browser and handed back as a download. It isn't sent to our servers, so there's nothing for anyone to see, keep or leak.

  • No watermark, no sign-up

The video you download is yours as it is: no logo stamped on it and no account needed. It's free for files up to 500 MB.

  • No app needed

Steady a clip on any computer without installing an editor.

  • Files up to 500 MB free

Videos up to 500 MB work without an account, and Pro raises that to 2 GB. Big files are read from your disk as they're processed, not loaded into memory first.

Stabilise video: common questions

How can I stabilise a shaky video for free?
Choose the video and select Stabilise. It runs in your browser with no watermark.
Why do the edges look smudged?
As the picture is steadied, the edges move into view and are filled in. Crop video can cut them off.
Why is it slow?
It analyses movement between every pair of frames on your own device. Trim the clip first and use a computer for long videos.
Is Stabilise video free?
Yes. Stabilise video is free, works without an account and adds no watermark, for files up to 500 MB. Pro raises that to 2 GB.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Stabilise video runs in your web browser, so the file is read on your own device and never sent to ConvertFile.
Does Stabilise video work on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone?
Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, with nothing to install. Very large files work best on a desktop or laptop, because in-browser tools use your device's memory.
